Death Note

So, thanks to some recent activities over at [ profile] landels_damned RP, I'm now actually reading Death Note. It's actually been pretty good so far, just from what little I've read.

First of all, let me just say that I love Ryuk. There's just something appealing and kinda funny about how he just sits there in the scene, watching everything happening and knowing that he can't be seen by anyone except Light. That or when he just hangs around with Light, sitting on his bed eating apples or following him around everywhere he goes. He's not there to really get involved. He's just there to be along for the ride and enjoy every minute of it. After all, why get involved if you can just sit back, grab a box of milk duds and enjoy the show? Plus, I find it funny that he seems to like video games, such as the scene where he asks Light if they can play some Mario Golf. There's just something funny about a scary-looking Shimigami like him being so casual all the time, lounging around or playing video games.

Then there's Light. I have some mixed feelings about Light. On one hand, he does have a good cause in mind, wanting to make a more peaceful world for good people. However, his methods aren't exactly noble, and I really don't think his goal is achievable. It would be impossible to wipe out all evil in the world, unless you were willing to kill a large majority of the planet. Plus, he has started to get out of hand with his killing, and has begun killing those after him, even if they've committed no crime, such as the FBI agents who were tracking his case. Plus, there's just something kinda creepy about how he used those prisoners to experiment with the Death Note. He's kinda similar to Dexter in a few ways, in that they're both killers who want to rid the world of evil. However, Dexter also kills because he feels the need to kill, which Light really doesn't have. Light makes the conscious decision to kill. Also, Dexter has a more realistic image of his goal. He's not out to change the world, just Miami, and even then, he knows that he can't get rid of all the killers in Florida. Lastly, Dexter doesn't just kill every criminal he comes across. He does a thorough job determining if they really deserve killing. Light has no such system.

Last but not least, we have L. L is interesting, to say the least. He's a detective, but doesn't represent your typical image of what a detective looks like or acts. He's eccentric, and this is mostly shown through his movements, often sitting in a crouching position or nibbling on the tip of his thumb. He doesn't wear a trench-coat or anything, he wears a plain white shirt and what I think are kacki pants, and walks around his room barefoot. However, underneath that eccentricity is a brilliant mind who gives Light a run of his money. Each are always trying to think two steps ahead of the other, and bring the other out of hiding. It's an interesting rivaly, and all when they've never met in person or even directly spoken to each other.

So, those are my thoughts on Death Note so far. I'm off to read more, so bye for now ^^
